Multi-Tasking Hacks for Back-to-School Season
How to stay balanced when life gets busier
Back-to-school season brings a whole new level of busy. Between early mornings, carpool lines, work deadlines, and trying to maintain your own wellness routine, it can feel like there just aren’t enough hours in the day. While I’m all about slowing down and being intentional, the reality is—we all need to multitask sometimes. The key? Doing it mindfully so you’re not drained at the end of the day.
Here are my favorite multi-tasking hacks that actually work during the back-to-school season:
1. Pair Movement with Connection
Instead of squeezing in a workout and trying to catch up with a friend later, combine them. Invite a friend for a walk after school drop-off, or hop on a call while you take a quick stroll. You’ll move your body, boost your mood, and check off your “connection” box all at once.
2. Turn Commutes into Mindful Time
Carpool lines and traffic don’t have to be wasted energy. Use this time for:
A podcast that inspires you
Breathwork or mindfulness practices (even just paying attention to your inhale and exhale)
A gratitude practice with your kids—go around and share one thing you’re grateful for
3. Prep Once, Eat Twice
Double your recipes when making dinner so you have leftovers for school lunches or tomorrow’s lunch for yourself. Overnight oats, chia pudding, or mason jar salads can be prepped in batches so you’re fueling yourself without scrambling.
4. Layer Self-Care Into Your Evenings
Instead of adding another “to-do” for self-care, fold it into what you’re already doing. For example:
Apply a face mask while you help kids with homework.
Listen to a guided meditation while folding laundry.
Diffuse calming essential oils during family dinner or reading time.
5. Stack Wellness with Screen Time
If you’re catching up on a show or scrolling in the evening, stretch or use a foam roller while you watch. It’s a simple way to care for your body without carving out extra time.
Final Thoughts
Multitasking doesn’t mean burning yourself out—it’s about finding smart ways to layer wellness into everyday life. Back-to-school season will always be busy, but with a little creativity, you can stay grounded, energized, and even make time for yourself in the process.
Remember: even small shifts can have a big impact on your well-being.
With wellness,
